In the wake of the success of this year’s inaugural event at the historic O’Donnell Golf Club in Palm Springs, California, the second annual Desert Classic Concours d’Elegance will honor Alfa Romeo as its featured marque. Also planned for the March 1, 2009, event is a focus on great racing cars, with a selection of Dan Gurney’s Eagles scheduled to be on display.
A special tribute to the late Robert Pond, co-founder of the Palm Springs Air Museum and a noted car collector, will be anchored by the presence of many cars from his collection, a number of them being shown publicly for the first time.
“The picturesque green in downtown Palm Springs is the perfect location for the beautiful, classic automobiles that will be gathered for this rare display,” noted event founder Paul Merrigan.
Proceeds from the event will benefit local Coachella Valley charities, including Animal Samaritans, the Palm Springs Police Department’s Mounted Enforcement Unit, Angel Light Academy, and area cancer research and treatment organizations.
