Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance 2011 – Photo Gallery

Duesenberg Special 'Mormon Meteor'The Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance 2011 was held Sunday, March 13th on the 10th and 18th fairways of the Golf Club of Amelia Island adjacent to the Ritz-Carlton in Amelia Island, Florida. An estimated 15,000 people attended the Amelia Concours on a zero cloud, perfectly sunny Florida day.
Honorary Chairman Bobby Rahal kicked off the 16th annual Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance by driving onto the field in the March 82G-1 that he put on pole at the 1982 Daytona 24 Hours. In addition to Featured Guest Bobby Rahal, the featured marques at the Amelia Concours 2011 were the cars of Duesenberg, Allard, and Kurtis and the Concours highlighted 100 Years of Chevrolet and 100 Years of Indy.
Other Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance 2011 classes ranged from esoteric ones like Orphan Concept, One Man’s Dream and the Cover Cars of Hot Rod to traditional Concours classes like American Classic Open, Ferrari and European Classic Pre-War.
The Amelia Island Concours awards Best of Show for two designations: Concours d’Elegance and Concours de Sport. Best of Show – Concours d’Elegance went to the 1933 Duesenberg SJN Arlington Torpedo Sedan of The Nethercutt Collection, while Best of Show – Concours de Sport was awarded to the 1935 Duesenberg SJ Speedster ‘Mormon Meteor’ of Harry Yeaggy.
Now deep into its second decade, the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance is among the top automotive events in the world. Always held the second full weekend in March, “The Amelia” draws nearly 250 rare vehicles from collections around the world to The Golf Club of Amelia Island at Summer Beach and The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island for a celebration of the automobile like no other. Since 1996, the show’s Foundation has donated nearly $1.7 million to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, Inc. and other deserving charities on Florida’s First Coast.

  5. Thanks for taking the time to post the images and correlate them with the vehicle type and owners. That is always an arduous task so we all appreciate the effort. As I mentioned on Ferrari Chat, I’m so sorry that I had to change my plans. I would have been right next to you shooting all those cars.

  6. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, that is what was advertised,,,drove 1000 miles round trip to see a total of 20 cars on the fairway on Saturday. Very poor information for the public. I’ll stick with Pebble Beach.

    1. There were world-class seminars and car auctions Friday and Saturday, the race cars and several others came onto the field late Saturday afternoon, followed by the wonderful Concours on Sunday. As advertised and then some.
      If anything, I would like the pace to be a little less hectic on Friday and Saturday. We were non-stop the entire three days. Sorry you didn’t read the schedule of events in advance or I think you would have had a much different and rewarding experience.

      1. The online site was incomplete, and offered little information. This was our first time to visit the Amelia Island concours and we did email about the parking info for Saturday and was directed to the Feranada Beach airport , which was empty with no signs at this point,, I hope you enjoyed the event, but for us it was a total waste of time, because nobody warned us about the lack of any “show “on Saturday(we were there until 2pm on Saturday) except for the auctions. We did not feel welcome, but, as we have stayed at the Ritz before, we did enjoy a decent lunch… As to the car show and concours,, not good. Been in the car world for 40 years, Road raced at the top tier of comp. Owned many cars including a Williams FW07 which I set an SCCA track record at Laguna Seca. Never have we felt like such outsiders before. I rate this event as a sad showing for the car world. I’m sorry but driving 1000 miles to see little to nothing, without any good info does seem to reflect on the event and the people that organized it. Best Regards robert

        1. You sound like you would be unhappy anywhere, we drove 1600 round trip and had the best time! Can’t wait to go back and arrive Wed through Mon! This show is a must go, not to be missed. Have been going to Pebble for 20 years and this show is a great compliment mix of cars and fun, the people were great and Bill Warner even chatted with my wife and I for during his busy day. DO NOT MISS THIS EVENT!

  9. I drove 600 miles late Sat nite and early Sunday and walked around in a sleep-dep buzz. Sensory overload was grabbing at me and my camera was full, so I decided to talk to the people who owned the cars. They were all approachable to the last one, and many quite friendly. I made several contacts that I will follow up on to continue this experience. Overall it was a rewarding time!
    I agree with Rbt that the web site was a bit lacking. It did take some reading to figure out that the concours was Sunday only, but the one day show is customary – you just have to figure out what day.
