The 2011 edition of the Quail Motorsports Gathering will be held Friday, August 19th at the Quail Lodge Golf Club in Carmel, California. The 9th annual “Quail” will again celebrate the finest sports and racing automobiles and motorcycles, while offering wonderful food, drink and camaraderie among like-minded enthusiasts.
The 2011 Quail Motorsports Gathering will honor Ferrari America and Superamerica models, a series of touring cars built in limited quantities in the 1950s and 1960s. They were often found with custom coachwork to back up their large V12 engine. Among the notable Ferraris expected at the Quail include:
- 1956 Ferrari 410 Superamerica, ex-Torino Motor Show
- 1963 Ferrari 400 Superamerica that won a Platinum Award at the Cavallino Classic, as well as class honors at Amelia Island
- 1953 Ferrari 342 America
- 1951 Ferrari 340 America that scored a perfect 100 points in the Ferrari GT Class at the 2008 Pebble Beach Concours and has won major awards at the Cavallino Classic and the Ferrari Club of America National Meet
- 1955 Ferrari 375 America built especially for Fiat Chairman Gianni Agnelli
In addition to the honored Ferraris, the Quail will also feature the 50th Anniversary of the Jaguar E-Type,
Sports and Racing Motorcycles, famous for high speeds and optimum performance, the 50th Anniversary of Phil Hill’s Formula One World Drivers’ Championship and the Riverside International Raceway.
The 2011 Quail Motorsports Gathering will also have classes for The Great Ferraris, Pre and Post-War Sports, Pre and Post-War Racing and Super Cars, among others. Additional featured entrants include Doug Magnon’s 1966 All American Racers Indy Eagle, 1938 Talbot Lago T150C-SS Figoni et Falaschi Teardrop Coupe owned by Chip Connor, 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing of Leo Schigel and Jim Truitt’s 1959 Norton Manx.
Spectators at the Quail will also enjoy the finest in food and wines, jewelry, access to the Bonhams & Butterfields auction and more. Bugatti, Rolls-Royce, Land Rover, Lamborghini and Audi are expected to offer test drives or an unveiling of their new models.
