The 74th Goodwood Members Meeting transpired last weekend at the Chichester circuit, with a broad array of classic and historic racing cars delighting participants and spectators alike. The event will likely be most remembered, however, for a pair of nasty-looking accidents that turned out to be somewhat less severe than might have first appeared.
Lola driver Michiel Smits comprehensively destroyed his T70 Spider in a Sunday afternoon crash, but his major injuries were confined to just fractures of a rib and a couple of vertebrae. A day earlier, Stephen Bond had flipped and rolled his Lotus 18 just before Start-Finish, the car ultimately landing in a walkway to the tunnel under the main straightaway. His primary injury was a broken collarbone.
