As announced at this January’s Autosport show in the U.K., a new race organization devoted to Group C and GTP cars held their first race of an inaugural six race season at Spa Francorchamps on May 3-4. The Spa race saw over 20 entries, including 18 Group C/GTP/IMSA cars (Argo, Aston Martin, Cougar, Jaguar, Lancia, Nissan, Spice, Tiga and Porsche), three of which were Americans Richard and Benton Bryan in a pair of Lancia LC2s and Jim Mullen in a Spice-Chevrolet.
Two 40-minute races were run over the two days with the first going to Justin Law in a Jaguar XJR-10, finishing just ahead of David Mercer in a Spice-Cosworth SE90C. Sunday’s race two saw Win Percy, driving Henry Pearman’s Jaguar XJR-11, take the victory over the Spices of Mercer and American Jim Mullen.
With a successful, accident-free first weekend under their belts, the Group C/GTPp racing Group moves on to Donington (July 26-27), Snetterton (Aug. 23-24) and culminates their inaugural season at Monza (Oct. 4-5). For more information go to their Web site at www.groupc-gtpracing.com
