The 25th annual California celebration of Italy’s classic open-road race, the Mille Miglia, kicks off this Sunday, April 26, with a free car show on Mason Street, between Sacramento and California Streets, in San Francisco. Some 67 cars have signed up to participate in this year’s tour, ranging from a 1927 Bentley 3 Liter from California to a 1962 Mercedes-Benz 300SK roadster from Florida. In between is a stunning assemblage of Ferraris, Porsches, Alfa Romeos, Austin-Healeys, Jaguars and others that will provide onlookers with an excellent look back in time to the days when these kinds of cars contested the 1,000-mile race around Italy.
International entrants from Japan, Colombia, Great Britain and Germany will join participants from 13 U.S. states, with California accounting for 46 of the entrants. On Monday morning, the four-day event will head north across the Golden Gate Bridge and after cruising the local countryside, stop for the night in Napa. Day 2 will take the tour through Calistoga, Cloverdale, Boonville, Ukiah and Little River, while Day 3 will go to Fort Bragg, Garberville, and Victorian Ferndale before returning to Little River for the night. The last day will travel through Jenner, Petaluma and Glen Ellen before finishing up in Calistoga. A good time is no doubt in store for all.
