Since 1974, the Monterey Historics have showcased the passion for vintage racing cars and has risen to the top shelf on the international motorsports calendar. Held at the beautiful Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, this multi-day event showcases the cars and people of motor racing history from the beginning of the sport to the present day.
The 2009 Rolex Monterey Historics featured 450 of the finest vintage racing cars, including 150 of featured marque Porsche, all preserved for the continued enjoyment of present and future generations.
In honor of the event, General Racing, sponsor Rolex and photographer Stephan Cooper offer the following pictures that capture the mythical presence of the Historics. Many of the photos have been edited to express a slightly different feeling for the races – a more artistic and ‘historic’ look. We hope you enjoy them.

Very cool. That guy spent some time in photoshop, but it paid off.
How about the Chief Starter, Chuck Weinstein? That pic is the best! Dude is the man.
Vry nice images.
Very nice photos indeed. Thanks for all of the Monterey coverage.
I love color photos, but your “B&W” look photos added a great period flavor to coverage. Great job!
Superb photography. The image composition interesting angles, cool use of sepia, all just the best.
Can anyone enlighten me on the identity of white car #11 in 5th position in the photo labeled Group 3B through Turn 4. Oh yes, great photography!
Jack –
The official entry list reports that is a 1963 Elva Courier Mk III. It DNF’d after only 2 laps.
Hope that helps.

The afore mentioned Chuck Weinstein just passed away a couple of weeks ago. I race in VARA and he was our starter for many, many years. Just a cool guy that was always there, one of a kind. You can read more details about him on http://www.vara.com
