Prior to retirement, the UK’s greatest motor racing commentator, Murray Walker, informed and entertained audiences with a particular passionate style and his inimitable “Murrayisms”—quotes that had become his trademark. During one, excitable foot in the mouth commentary he said, “The lead car is unique, except for the one behind it which is identical.” Had he been commentating on any of the SCCA F5000 races in 1976, with Peter Gethin driving the VDS Chevron B37, at least there would have been one unique car in the field and Murray’s blushes would have been spared.
