Historic Race Circuits of Elkhart Lake, in conjunction with the Sports Car Club of America and the Great Race, announces the first annual Elkhart Lake Historic Rally, to be held in and around the Village of Elkhart Lake, WI on October 5th and 6th, 2007. The SCCA and Great Race have recently agreed that SCCA will run regional rallies in a Great Race compatible format. The Elkhart Lake Historic Rally will be run as a time-speed-distance rally using the Great Race compatible format, and SCCA national points will be awarded. The rally is one of 15 such events currently scheduled around the country and one of only three Great Race-compatible regional rallies where SCCA national points can be earned.
In 1951 and 1952, the SCCA staged Monte Carlo-style rallies in conjunction with open-road sports car races held on the roads around Elkhart Lake. The roads that comprised the race circuits have been recently preserved and listed on the National Register of Historic Places by the U.S. Department of the Interior. Along with Watkins Glen, they are the only historic circuits in the United States so preserved.
The 2007 Elkhart Lake Historic Rally celebrates the 55th anniversary of the 1951 and 1952 Monte Carlo rallies. The rallies were unique events where participants could start from any one of 65 cities around the country and were allowed to select their own average speed. The objective was to arrive in the Village of Elkhart Lake at 5:00 pm on the Saturday of the race weekend.
The 2007 historic rally is open to all vintage cars with special recognition for entries with a 1952 vintage or earlier. Awards will be made to teams competing in SCCA equipment categories (unlimited, limited and stock) with additional awards for best finish in a Great Race car and best finish in a vintage car of 1952 or prior.
