1971 AMC Javelin racing in Trans-Am ChampionshipThe 2010 Russo and Steele “Monterey Sports and Muscle” auction will be held August 12-14 at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Monterey, California. Celebrating its 10th Anniversary in 2010, Russo and Steele’s expanded, three-day auction offers a diverse set of more than 250 cars.

Headlining the sale is the 1971 AMC Javelin Race Car that won the 1971 Trans-Am Championship at the hands of racing legend Mark Donohue. This Penske-prepared AMC, winner of seven out of ten races in 1971, would make a great addition to a collection, in addition to a beast on the vintage circuit. Other highlights include the ex-Parnelli Jones 1969 Ford Boss 302 Trans-Am Race Car; ex-Holman and Moody factory-backed team car 1963 Shelby Cobra CSX2009; 1965 Shelby Cobra CSX2461; 1933 Auburn Auburn Salon Boatail Speedster and a “Survivor” 1967 Chevrolet Corvette 427/435 Roadster.

In 2009, Russo and Steele offered 123 cars, with 60 finding new owners, reflecting a 49% sales rate. The total sales volume was $4,999,985 and the average price per car sold was $83,333.

Russo and Steele’s Monterey Auction is located at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Monterey. Auction preview days will be from Wednesday, August 11th through Saturday, August 14th. The auctions will be held on Thursday, August 12th, Friday, August 13th and Saturday, August 14th, with all evenings starting at 5:00 PM.
