Billing itself as “America’s Largest and most historically important archive of automotive history,” this is the official site of the Kellogg Auto Archives, where Ron Kellogg has assembled a collection of more than a million negatives chronicling nearly a century of automotive activity. It also contains a vast array of historic movie footage that includes 16-mm films, produced by Dynamic Films in color and with sound, from the Indianapolis 500 between 1953 and 1978. Extensive early aviation footage is also on hand, among it a 1935 clip of Howard Hughes taking off in his H-1, the last private aircraft to establish a World Air Speed Record.
In addition to Kellogg’s own photos, the archive also features the work of other well-known shooters like Dean Batchelor, Ralph Poole, Jack Brady, and Dwight Vaccaro. Among those images are many of Carroll Shelby and his Cobras that have rarely been seen before. Also available are taped interviews with many of the great figures of the automotive world, as well as movie stars who had their own connections to the automobile and the racing of it, such as Clint Eastwood, Lee Marvin, Lana Turner, and Roy Rogers. Have a visit and take a look around.
