Within two weeks we’ve have two major changes to vintage car racing organizations in North America. On the heels on the SVRA expansion news, Historic Sportscar Racing, Ltd. announced that Vintage Racing Events LLC has joined the HSR ownership group with a controlling interest in the company.
Vintage Racing Events President (and long-time HSR member), David Hinton, has been elected as HSR President and Denise Norton-Beatty joins the company as Secretary/Treasurer.
Hinton commented, “It’s such a great honor to carry on and move forward with what Howard Turner and Steve Simpson started over 35 years ago at Road Atlanta. I go back a long way with HSR as well. I was present at HSR’s first event at Sebring International Raceway and have been a huge supporter of HSR ever since. I look forward to working with Steve and Diane Simpson, Ken Fengler, Judy Marchione and all the valued HSR team going forward.”
HSR was founded by Howard Turner and Steve Simpson in 1977 as the Walter Mitty Challenge Group. The name was subsequently changed to Historic Sportscar Racing when Joe Pendergast joined the organization in the 1990s. HSR sanctions, promotes and and runs vintage and historic racing events throughout the Eastern and Midwestern United States, including annual races at Road Atlanta, Palm Beach, Savannah/Hutchinson Island and Daytona, among other circuits.
“I am very pleased to see the future of HSR secured and in the hands of David, Steve and Diane and our excellent long serving staff at HSR. I expect great new developments from this team. David’s passion and love for Historic racing will no doubt, be beneficial to the whole sport of Historic Racing,” said outgoing HSR owner Howard Turner.
“Diane and I, and all the HSR staff, are delighted to welcome David and Denise aboard HSR and look forward to working closely with them over the coming seasons,” said Steve Simpson. “It is great to have such an accomplished vintage racer, visionary and long time colleague in David join us as the new President of HSR.”
