On the 40th anniversary of his 1976 World Championship season, James Hunt’s life will be celebrated during this year’s Masters Historic Festival at England’s Brands Hatch circuit May 28-29. The annual meeting will feature the FIA Masters Historic Formula One Championship, where a number of Hunt’s cars from period will be racing.
Hunt’s first race at the Kent circuit was in a Mini in October 1967, and he then won the Formula One Race of Champions in 1976 and 1978. Brands Hatch was also the venue of his very last race when, in 1984, he drove a Ford Escort XR3i to 5th place in the celebrity race at the British Grand Prix.
Also on display will be Hunt’s original race kit and trophies. His son Freddie will be racing a Hesketh-liveried Mini in the Masters Pre-66 Touring car race, and will also present trophies during the weekend, with the winner of Sunday’s FIA Masters Historic Formula One Championship race being awarded The James Hunt Trophy.
