Re: Frank Lloyd Wright’s AC (Vintage Roadcar, News, October 2014). It has a March body, designed by Lord March’s grandfather. I maintain that Freddy March invented the classic 1930s British sports car style: flowing wing line, joined to the main body at the front; double-bubble scuttle; slab tank at the rear with spare wheel attached.
He first offered it on a Wolseley Hornet (which was ripped off by Wolseley’s main London dealer Eustace Watkins.) Freddy’s response was to switch coachbuilders. It appeared as a factory option on Hillman and Riley designs and then, in 1934, AC bought exclusive rights and charged £20 over the standard factory body.
