Four years ago, I called in at Goodwood and my jaw dropped – in the paddock was a Ferrari T156 “sharknose.” I knew that it was a reproduction because all the factory cars were scrapped, but it was still a wonderful surprise. Photographs can never convey a true sense of scale – nothing compares with being able to walk around a car.
I walked over to the owner and said, “What a wonderful thing to have done.” It was clearly the right thing to have said because he was soon telling me about the difficulty they’d had in making the right compromises about the body. All of the originals were individual, and the purpose of the reproduction was to represent them all.
