How do you restore a car without mechanical parts?
Some in the historic car community gripe about FIVA (the Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens) and its efforts to regulate the hobby with initiatives like the Historic Vehicle Identity Card. While some consider this overreaching, this international organization does do a number of things for the betterment of the hobby. One such area that FIVA is addressing is something I have to confess I had no idea was an issue, but I now see could be a huge problem for both current and future enthusiasts. While pistons for a 100-year old Alfa Romeo can be bought—or at worst remanufactured—and an oil pump for an Aston Martin DB2 can be disassembled, cleaned and rebuilt…how do you “restore” the electronic “brain” of a late ’80s supercar?
