West Coast road racer Dick Smith (73 years old) and his stepson Kyle Runciman (16 years old) were killed in mid-April, when the small plane they were flying crashed in the mountains outside of Tehachapi, California. Smith raced a variety of cars in the 1960s including Ferraris, Porsches, McLarens and most notably Cobras. Smith raced a Cobra to the 1967 SCCA ARRC championship as well as setting a 198 mph speed record with it at Bonneville.
