• Miles Collier and Jeff Lane are the Pinnacle and Honored Collectors, respectively, for this year’s Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival & Concours d’Elegance, scheduled for November 5-6 at the Port Royal Golf Club on South Carolina’s Hilton Head Island. Pinnacle award selection Collier, who heads up the Collier Collection at the Revs Institute® in Naples, Florida, will be making his debut appearance at the event, bringing along a trio of cars from his collection, while Honored Collector Lane, proprietor of the Lane Motor Museum in Nashville, Tennessee, will show half a dozen cars handpicked from his extensive collection. • Ferrari’s legendary supercar, the F40, has topped a British poll to identify the best supercar of all time, held by the organizers of The Fast Car Festival at Donington Park in late July. The F40, built to commemorate the brand’s 40th anniversary in 1988, was the last model to be signed off by company founder Enzo Ferrari before his death. It was, at the time, the fastest car in the world, and meant to be the closest thing possible to an F1 car for the road. The F40 garnered 18 percent of the total vote, with the second choice being the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione.
• The Tucker Automobile Club of America will hold its 41st Annual Convention in Ypsilanti, Michigan September 16-18, returning to the site of the former Tucker family home and barn. The event will showcase several restored Tucker ’48 Sedans, with some of the cars on display bearing sequential serial numbers and coming together for the first time since they left the factory in 1948. In addition to the restored Tucker sedans, the club also plans to unveil a recent Tucker barn find that hasn’t seen the light of day in more than 30 years!
• The E-Type Club’s three-week Round Britain Coastal Drive in support of Prostate Cancer UK will commence at Goodwood on September 12, following a route that runs clockwise around the entire coast of Britain before returning on September 29. It is expected that participants will cover approximately 180 miles per day, although the option exists for entries to drive just a single section, or several, without having to commit to the entire tour. • After encountering unforeseen challenges related to the event, Ferrari Owners Group (FOG) and the Ferrari Owners Charitable Foundation (FOCF) were forced to cancel the Golden Gate Ferrari Festival, originally scheduled for Saturday, September 10. As many as 400 Ferraris were to be slated for the event, organized to benefit Make-A-Wish® Greater Bay Area, but following concerns about the structural integrity of the venue, specifically in regard to the Festival’s weight-bearing load, it was determined a final resolution could not be reached within the timeframe of the event.
