California Festival of Speed 2016 – Report and Photos
1973 Porsche 911 RSR
The California Festival of Speed 2016, one of the largest Porsche events held in the Southwest, took place on the weekend of April 8-10 at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California.
The three-day celebration of all things Porsche was hosted by Zone 8 of the Porsche Club of America (PCA). They do a wonderful job of bringing PCA and Porsche Owners Club (POC) members, Porsche owners and enthusiasts to the paddock, road course and high banks of this Southern California venue. The POC returned this year, which made for even more racing excitement and action on the track.
Despite the on and off rain throughout the weekend, the event provided many of the German manufacturer’s models — from a 918 Spyder to race-spec 911s, from vintage and contemporary examples to exotics and race cars — all on display in and around the paddock and parking areas. With the Porsche corral, club races, time trials, swap meet, vendor row and taste of autocross, the California Festival of Speed made for a great weekend for all the enthusiast and aficionados of the Stuttgart Marque who attended.

I’d be lying big time, if I claimed that I didn’t miss this sport. Some of the most enjoyable moments with the San Diego Club. A very sad moment when I sold my RS America # 43.
Although you may not have your Porsche any longer, you should make an effort to attend these events and connect with old friends and fellow Porschephiles to enjoy these wonderful cars!
I made the first of many other SDR Porsche events at the Speedway, as a volunteer, as a participant, and as a gawker. I’m getting on in years, with all the aches and pains that inevitably await us all, so have very little inclination to wander around Fontana or anywhere else for that matter.
No worries, Tom, you can always enjoy the images we share here.
Thanks, it’s what I had in mind.
