Bruno Giacomelli was born in Brescia, Italy, in 1952. He was always enthusiastic about racing and especially about single-seaters, working his way quickly into Formula Two, where he won the European F2 Championship in 1978 driving a works March-BMW. He managed to break into F1 in a 3rd McLaren in 1977 and 1978. Then in 1979, he started his career with Alfa Romeo as a works driver and brought the factory back to F1 as an official team with the new 177. European Editor Ed McDonough had a chance to catch up with Giacomelli at this year’s Goodwood Festival to learn more about his star-crossed F1 career.
