The Bonhams Scottsdale 2014 Auction was held January 16th at the Westin Kierland Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona, resulting in nearly $25 million in total sales and an 89% sell-through rate. The total for Bonhams’ third annual Arizona sale nearly doubled last year’s total and quadrupled that of the first year.

The top result at the 2014 Bonhams Scottsdale sale went to the 1951 Ferrari 212 Export Touring Berlinetta that sold for $3,190,000 to an American collector in the audience after a long bidding battle between other collectors in the room and on the phones. Chassis number 0088 E featured documented ownership and competition history, original bodywork and a matching-numbers drivetrain.

Additional notable results included the 1931 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Supercharged Zagato Gran Sport Spider that sold for $3,080,000, a world auction record for the model, the 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB/6C that exceeded its pre-sale estimate to make $2,640,000, the multiple award-winning 1968 Ferrari 330 GTC that achieved a strong $803,000 and the preserved 1936 Mercedes-Benz 500K Supercharged Sports Phaeton that sold to a well-known marque collector by telephone for $1,430,000.

“We were thrilled with the sale and very grateful to our esteemed consignors and buyers,” said Mark Osborne, Head of Bonhams US Motoring Department. “Our sell-through rate was nearly 90% while achieving world record prices. The sale total shows tremendous growth for Bonhams and our presence here in Scottsdale. We were able to offer an excellent selection of top-tier automobiles and the market responded accordingly.”
