I have just been to an exhibition of motor racing art and, as usual, it was a depressing experience. I saw a painting of the first corner of the 1955 Monaco GP which is a direct copy of a well-known photograph. The difference is that the painting had an outrageous price tag and is inferior to the photograph.
I wonder why anyone would want to spend time and effort to copy a photo. Perhaps it is because the artist is confident that it will sell. In that case, perhaps he would sell me his mailing list because the sort of person who buys his paintings is likely to be the sort of person who might buy shares in the gold mine beneath my garden.
