The fourth-annual Arizona Concours d’Elegance will be held Sunday, January 15, on the landscaped inner lawns of the historic Arizona Biltmore resort, once again kicking off the Scottsdale/Phoenix area’s annual Classic Car Week that features numerous collector car auctions and associated automotive events. Tickets have gone on sale and will likely sell out quickly, so plans to attend should be made now.
Nearly 100 vintage motorcars have been chosen for the concours, including one of the rarest and most valuable cars in the world, the magnificent 1936 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic coupe, with its distinctive riveted body, from the Mullin Automotive Museum. It will be entered in this year’s featured class, The Cars of Ettore and Jean Bugatti.
Two other featured classes will join the Concours’ standing classes for the judging competition: Coachwork by Vignale, displaying cars designed by this iconic Italian carrozzeria; and Lincolns of the Classic Era, showing pre-war examples of the American luxury brand that celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2017.
The Concours weekend begins Saturday, January 14 with three special panel discussions in the Grand Ballroom of the Arizona Biltmore: the Phoenix Automotive Press Association Auction Week Preview; “Legends: Pioneer Women in Racing” featuring veteran drivers and a selection of their racecars on display; and “Driven: The Passion Driving Race Team Owners,” with featured guests like Chip Ganassi and Bobby Rahal. Tickets for these panel discussions cost $60, and allow entry to all three panels.
