To mark the 100th anniversary of its construction in 1909 and its first 500-mile race in 1911, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has planned a seemingly endless array of worthy commemoration events, beginning in March when the first of an ongoing series of “Grounds Tours” will be available to the general public.
Each tour is a 90-minute journey through the history of the Speedway, hosted by its Hall of Fame Museum staffers who will provide a narrated trip through the track’s long and glorious past, taking tourgoers to many places normally off limits to fans, such as the timing and scoring suite in the Bombardier Learjet Pagoda.
Four tours a day will take place on selected weekdays and weekends throughout the year, with tickets, schedules, and information available by contacting Mary Geiss at the Hall of Fame Museum office, (317) 492-6747, or [email protected]. Advance purchase is recommended, and special arrangements can be made for groups of 20 or more on dates other than those scheduled.
