Mecum Auctions’ annual spring sale in Kansas City, held March 11-12 at the Convention Center rolled 572 classic and collector vehicles across the auction block, with 409 cars hammering sold for a 72 percent sell-through rate, and a grand total of $10,212,687 in sales — a 15-percent increase over last year. Top seller was a 1968 Shelby GT500KR Fastback with a factory four-speed transmission (above) that gaveled for $210,000.
The sale of the 428 Cobra Jet-equipped Shelby GT500KR was but one of the auction’s highlights, as a 1,000-mile 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT Coupe elicited a hammer price of $185,000 and another Shelby, a ’67 GT500 Fastback, brought in $170,000.
