When drivers are asked about their greatest racecar, many look at cars that have won races or given them great success in their careers. I look back and try to remember the car that has given me great fun and holds good racing memories. So, if I look back in some sort of order, one of the most fun series I recall competing in was the Can-Am series when I drove the Lola Frisbee, and the Lola 530; they were both fantastic cars which gave immense pleasure. Then, believe it or not, I look at the F1 Benetton Tyrrell, which I drove in 1983. The car was a good car to drive, however, it wasn’t as good as the McLaren or the Williams, but, it was a pretty nice car.
I remember having a great time with my teammate, Michele Alboreto. Michele was just a super nice guy and person to work alongside; he didn’t have any sinister side to him and as a driver he was very quick. If you asked him questions about set up or race conditions, as I did many times, he’d give a straight and truthful answer. He was one of those guys in motor racing who it was always a pleasure to be around, both on and off the track. I had dinner with him on many occasions; he had a great sense of humor, too—a great loss to the sport.
