Aristotle Socrates Onassis was a Greek shipping magnate with enormous wealth, an iconic style and a passion for objects of beauty. He is, however, most widely remembered for marrying Jacqueline Kennedy in 1968. Five years ago, Onassis would have been the only Greek shipping magnate I could have named if pressed. Today there is another, and that is my dear friend Alex Vazeos of Athens, who likewise has a passion for exquisitely sculpted forms and a glamour that is truly all his own.
Vazeos began his automotive collecting career in 1992 and, like so many, began by accumulating Jags, Porsches, Corvettes, and the like. As his collecting experience and knowledge matured, however, he set a highly disciplined course for the Isle of Italian Exotica. Today, in his first floor garage/museum, Vazeos has assembled an astounding array of automobiles, including a 1955 Bandini 750 Sport Siluro, a 1954 Moretti 750 Grand Sport, a 1953 Giaur Champion, a 1959 Abarth Record Monza, a 1958 750 Abarth Double Bubble, a 1955 Moretti 1200 Gran Sport Berlina and many, many more. The Vazeos “many, many more” is sometimes hard to keep up with, but his currently favored jaw- dropping mount is the rightly unforgettable 1964 Abarth-Simca 1300 Corsa (#130S 0117).
