Bill Huth, owner of California’s Willow Springs Raceway, passed away late Monday night, May 4th. Huth was 91-years old.
Construction of the track, outside Lancaster, California began in 1952, with the inaugural event held on November 23, 1953. By 1962, the facility had fallen into disrepair, which is when Huth stepped in and purchased the track and surrounding property. He has owned and operated it ever since. When asked by the L.A. Times, in 1991, why he hadn’t sold it, Huth remarked, “Why would I sell it? I’m having too much fun running the place.”
Due to its continuous operation since 1953, the state of California has recognized Willow Springs International Raceway as an Official California Point of Historical Interest.
