The Vintage Auto Racing Association of Canada has announced that its annual Vintage Grand Prix will take place on the weekend of June 14-17 on the Mosport Grand Prix track at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, near Bowmanville, Ontario. The usual VARAC run groups will be featured, including: Vintage Historic cars built before 1973; Classic cars built between 1973 and 1997; as well as the Single seat open-wheel cars of Monoposto and Wings and Slicks.
Additionally, three special races are planned. The first is the Open Wheel Challenge will be held on Friday at the end of the day, with any open-wheeled car entered for the weekend eligible for this session. The second is the Triumph Challenge presented by the MG Vintage Racers, a session open only to MG and Triumph based racing cars, while the third is the actual VARAC Vintage Grand Prix, held as the final session on Sunday, with any Vintage, Historic, or Classic car (under 2500 pounds) eligible for this session.
Off-track attractions will include: The Steam Whistle Paddock Tour on Friday evening (said to be a roaming dinner party with free beer), followed by a live band, Kim and Company in the upper paddock; A dinner/reception Saturday evening in the Conference Centre (cash bar) followed by the Safety Team party featuring the Mudmen, a Celtic rock band; while Sunday will feature the Field of Dreams Car Show near Turn 8, and the ever popular Legends of Motorsport Panel in the Conference Centre.
Admission to all of these off track events is covered by the entry fee for the driver and one crew, additional tickets may be purchased at preregistration or at the event.
A Test Day has been slated for Thursday, June 14, where a $300 entry fee will provide four on-track sessions, and is mandatory for drivers who have not run the Mosport Grand Prix track before.
