Canadian racer Tommy Hoan has died in a one-car accident in his home town of Hamilton, Ontario, just before Christmas. Although Tommy’s racing career was brief, he managed to cut a swath through tracks from Edenvale, Ontario, to the streets of Watkins Glen and Bridgehampton in New York. In the process he made friends with many drivers and competitors, from Jim Kimberly to Walt Hansgen. Perhaps Tommy’s most famous race took place through the streets of Watkins Glen in 1952 when, driving his four-year-old MGTC, he finished 4th to the brand-new Oscas of Jim Kimberly and Bill Spear and the purpose-built Simca special of Roger Barlow. Tommy received his star on The Glen’s Walk of Fame in 1997.
