By now, everyone who wants to see Rush has done so and formed their own opinion. There is no point in writing a critique, but the movie left some loose ends. Ron Howard was making a drama, not a documentary and all drama depends on conflict. The movie also compresses seven years into just over two hours, but there are references that are not followed through, so here are some historical footnotes.
I lived through 1976 as a fan, I did not engage professionally with the sport until the following year, though I did get to know most of the cast of Rush. Alistair Caldwell, McLaren’s team manager, is played by Stephen Mangan and Alistair himself plays, for him, the unlikely role of “FIA Official.”
