Sports Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) held its 12 Hours of Sebring race on March 12-16, 2013 at the Sebring International Raceway in Sebring, Florida. Held in conjunction with the 61th annual 12 Hours of Sebring, the SVRA historic races are waged on the same 3.7 mile, 17-turn circuit that is home to the famed endurance race won this year by the Audi R18 e-tron quattro.
The second race in the SVRA East Coast Championship Series, the 2013 running of the SVRA 12 Hours of Sebring saw four days of qualifying and racing with two feature one-hour enduros into the dark Thursday and Friday evenings. Since the vintage racers share track time with their modern brethren at Sebring, SVRA has to group cars together much differently, opting for two race groupings – Vintage/Classic and Historic GT/GTP/ALMS – instead of the normal six to eight pairings. The Vintage Group included cars from SVRA groups 1, 3, 4, 5a and 8, while the Historic Group included SVRA groups 5b, 6, 7, 10 and 11. (See SVRA Race Group Info).
Among the more than notable entries at the 2013 running of the SVRA 12 Hours of Sebring included the 1980 BMW M1 of Markus Glarner; Henry Schmitt’s 1978 BMW M1 Procar; Dan Mershon’s 1967 Ford GT40 and 1969 Lola T70 MkIIIB; 1987 Porsche 962 driven by Eric van de Poele and the 1972 BMW 3.5 CSL of Scott Hughes. Additionally, the Sebring Hall of Fame Gallery of Legends display included the following overall winners: Porsche 911 RSR 2.9 (1973), Porsche 962 (1986) and BMW V12 LMR (1999).
Similar to the 2011 and 2012 races, photographer Michael DiPleco documented the 2013 SVRA 12 Hours of Sebring vintage race with the following collection of pictures that capture the late day sun and solid line-up of cars that tackled the Sebring track.

Really enjoyed these pics from Sebring. It’s great to see these old beauties tearing up the old airport circuit.
Love the pictures of ground-pounding Corvettes.
