1987 Porsche 928 S4
Porsche rolled the dice in Geneva in 1977, introducing the 928 as a replacement for its 911 series of cars. The roll came up snake eyes. In a way—similar to what happened when Chevrolet started promoting a mid-engined Corvette—the purists revolted, and Porsche kept the 911. While Chevrolet continues to show mid-engined concepts, it has never actually had the guts to put one into production. Porsche not only produced the 928, it kept it in production until 1995.
