The Gentleman Drivers GT & Sports Endurance races at the 2009 Silverstone Classic feature pre-1966 GT cars and pre-1963 sports endurance cars. With iconic GT cars such as AC Cobras, Aston Martin and E-Types mixed in, as in period, with the nimble sports racers such as the Lotus XI, fans were treated to some thrilling racing each day on the weekend.
While Corvette, Bizzarrini and Alfa Romeo raced closely against MGBs and Lotus Elites, the ticket to have at Silverstone was either a Jaguar E-Type or an AC Cobra as both races were dominated by them.
Saturday’s race was won by Jon Minshaw and Martin Stretton over two mighty Cobras, while Sunday’s race saw Simon Hadfield in victory lane with his AC Cobra. Even though the races were 30 and 45 minutes long respectively, the margin of victory was 1.5 second on Saturday and 3.9 seconds on Sunday. Great racing.
