Record $3.5 Million For 1971 Hemi ’Cuda Convertible
Mecum Auctions made quite a statement at their inaugural Seattle auction, the weekend of June 14-15, with the record-setting sale of a 1971 Plymouth Hemi ’Cuda Convertible. Hammering at an unprecedented $3.5 million, the sale now stands as the highest price ever achieved, at auction, for any of the storied muscle cars that came out of Detroit in the golden age of the Pony Car Wars. This sale price is significant in that it supports that the previous multi-million dollar sale of a Hemi ’Cuda Convertible in 2007 was not a fluke and may mark a resurgence of collector interest in muscle cars after a nearly 10-year lull in values. Overall auction results For Mecum’s Seattle sale included the successful sale of 321 additional vehicles, bringing total auction sales to $15,125,097.
