The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame recently inducted the late Grand Prix and sports car driver Masten Gregory into its Hall of Fame on February 13. Gregory was the first successful American-born driver in Formula One. He scored the first podium finish by an American in a World Championship Grand Prix at Monaco in 1957 and went on to finish 6th in the World Drivers Championship that year as a rookie. Gregory’s other driving achievements include winning the inaugural Nassau Trophy race in 1954, as well as winning the 24-Hours of Le Mans in 1965 driving a NART 250LM Ferrari with Jochen Rindt. Gregory still holds the record for the most Le Mans starts by an American.
Gregory was inducted along with Jeffrey Clinton, a former SCCA National Champion who was killed at Homestead in 2002, and other sports notables such as Bo Jackson. For more information, visit http://www.mosportshalloffame.com/default-1.asp
