The seventh running of the very popular Walter Hayes Trophy for Kent-engined Formula Ford cars takes place at Silverstone from November 2–4. The 2006 Trophy was won by Peter Dempsey in a Ray GRS06. Last year, 164 cars took part, while the field has increased each season.
The event is run on the Silverstone national circuit, with six heats leading to a series of knockout races, with every competitor getting to race at least twice. The race is open to Kent Formula Ford-engined cars of all ages, and there is a historic category as well. James Beckett, current assistant club secretary of the BRDC, is the organizer and has watched the Trophy grow rapidly over the last few years. There is competitor testing on November 1–2, heat practice and races on Saturday, semi-finals and finals on Sunday with a host of supporting events.
PA Motorsport’s Peter Alexander has entered a 1970 Macon MR8 in the Walter Hayes Trophy for VR’s European Editor Ed McDonough. The Macon will run in the historic class, and is a car exported from the UK to Fred Opert. American Lee Goldstein raced it in period.
