The 14th annual Kastner Cup race will be held at Summit Point Raceway in Summit Point, West Virginia, as part of the four-day Jefferson 500 vintage race event scheduled for May 14-17, 2015. The organizing Vintage Racer Group (VRG) has announced that Triumph will be the featured marque, with all Triumph-powered cars welcome.
VRG’s philosophy is to deliver lots of track time at a reasonable entry fee, so the event includes a Thursday practice day, a driver’s school for novices and three days of qualifying and racing. The main Summit Point circuit is 2.0 miles in length, with ten turns, 400 feet of elevation change, lots of good twisty bits and a 2,900-foot main straight. The track is located about 70 miles west of Washington, D.C.
Saturday’s Kastner Cup race honors R.W. “Kas” Kastner, director of Triumph’s U.S. racing program in the 1960s-1970s. Kastner, who has more than 50 years’ experience in the automotive and racing industry, will present the award to the car and driver selected for the honor.
The Jefferson 500 was first run at Summit Point 20 years ago when track owner Bill Scott and his friend Brian Redman brought vintage racing to this charming, “old school” track. Brian will again be the Grand Marshall of the event in 2015. For further information please visit www.vrgonline.org
