Octane Racing Group, promoter of the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, has announced that Historic Grand Prix will provide one of the supporting events at this year’s Formula One World Championship race at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on the weekend of June 11–13.
“We are pleased to bring back to the Grand Prix du Canada, a group of passionate aficionados that offers a spectacular show and also enjoys taking the time to talk with fans who visit with them in the paddock,” said François Dumontier, president of Octane. “Each time they go on track, it is one of the most popular moments of the weekend.”
“We have fond memories from our last visit to Montréal in 2004, and that is why we are thrilled to be invited to the 2010 Grand Prix du Canada,” said James King, co-director of HGP. “Our owners/drivers are as enthusiastic about the sport as the fans attending the race. We are quite accessible to the public and willing to share stories about our cars and the men who drove them in the day.”
HGP intends to showcase some 30 cars from F1’s first three-liter era between 1967 and 1982, including two of the Ferraris raced by the man for whom the circuit is named, a 1978 312 T4 and a 1979 312 T5. Before the circuit was named in his honor, Villeneuve scored his first F1 triumph there in the fall of 1978.
Tickets for the weekend are available from the Canadian Grand Prix box office at (514) 350-0000, open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., or can be ordered online from www.circuitgillesvilleneuve.ca
