This year, for the first time ever, the owners of historic Formula 5000 cars have been invited to participate in August’s Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, and from the looks of the preliminary entry list no one wants to be left out. Nearly 50 cars from 17 different constructors have been listed, with their drivers hailing from New Zealand, Australia and the UK, as well as Canada and ten U.S. states.
Included on the list are three cars that won U.S. F5000 championships, the Eagle Mark 5s driven by Tony Adamowicz and John Cannon, as well as Brian Redman’s Lola T332. Among the other marques represented are Shadow, Surtees, McLaren, McRae, Lotus, McKee, Chevron, March, Talon, LeGrand, Elfin, Matich, Crosslé, Begg and Webster, with the cars split fairly evenly between the Class A (pre-1972) and Class B (1972-1976).
