We’ve seen visions of the future before. Cars that can fly, jet-powered cars, atomic-powered cars, robotics within cars, and a host of other wild but inspiring concepts for our future vehicles.
As a car designer and historian, I’m often asked what the next big shift in transportation design might be. Until we figure out how to dismantle atoms and coax them into teleportation, the next big shift on the movement of man is not going to be moving our physical body—that’s horse and buggy thinking. The next shift will use digital tools to leverage contemporary and future behaviors, while downplaying our current demand for physical transportation.
