A broad selection of more than five dozen various BMWs will fill the paddock at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this August 18-21, as the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion honors the German carmaker as its Featured Marque.
An amazing 900 entry requests were received for the 550 paddock slots, with 64 of the accepted entries being BMWs, ranging from a 1937 328 to a 2001 M3 GTR, all dispersed among the landmark event’s 15 run groups
Rather than the static heritage display typical for the featured marque, BMW of North America is instead developing the BMW Living Legends Garage to house a range of representative racing BMWs that chronicle the history of the company. Many of these cars will be actively competing during the weekend, so visitors will be able to see, hear and feel the living history of the brand.
The Living Legends Garage will feature two cars from the BMW Art Car Collection — which now totals 17, with two more in development for 2017. These rolling works of art have been created by some of our most famous artists, and this year’s Reunion will showcase the very first, Alexander Calder’s 3.0 CSL from 1975 (above), as well as the most recent, Jeff Koons’ M3 GT from 2009.
