The opening event of each winter’s Arizona Classic Car Week, the fifth annual Arizona Concours, will not take place in 2018 after directors for the event decided to retire the event after four successful years in which they raised more than $300,000 for its charity, Make-A-Wish® Arizona.
Long-term success for such events depends, of course, on attracting sustaining corporate support, and with no such solution in sight, officials have released the following statement:
“When we set out to create the Arizona Concours d’Elegance, we did so with two primary goals: to create a quality event with integrity; and to provide financial support for our charity, Make-A-Wish Arizona®. With the contributions of many individuals and organizations, we’re quite proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish in such a short time.
“However, the long-term success of events such as the Arizona Concours is built on sustained corporate support. Although the event has been a critical success, it unfortunately has not established the financial foundation necessary to support it sustainably into the future. Not wishing to compromise the quality of the event, the Directors have concluded it is best to retire the Arizona Concours d’Elegance.”
What is that beautiful blue and white sports car? Its Ferrari-like but I’ve never seen that C pillar treatment before
Yes, it is a Zagato-bodied Ferrari 250 GT. Owned by noted Zagato collector David Sydorick.
