The weekend of October 14–16 will bring perhaps the world’s largest gathering of Porsche racecars, racers and personalities to California’s Monterey Peninsula. At Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Porsche Cars North America will hold Rennsport IV, the fourth iteration of its quasi-triannual homage to its racing past.
This October’s Rennsport will focus on the 911 and its many racing variants, as well as the mighty 917, the 956/962 prototypes from the ’70s and ’80s, and even the successful RS Spyder of more recent years. Adding to this year’s event, influential Porsche racer Brian Redman was recently named “Official Ambassador to Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV” by Porsche Cars North America. In his role, Redman will serve as consultant and advisor to the organizers as they prepare for their October extravaganza.
“I can’t think of a more qualified person than Brian to help us realize another successful Rennsport Reunion,” said PCNA President and CEO Detlev von Platen. “Not only was he instrumental in designing and organizing the previous venues, but with his own colorful racing history, not the least with some of our most famous racecars, Brian Redman personifies the spirit and fascination that we want to encourage with this next gathering of Porsche racecars and their designers and drivers.”
And as if the Rennsport Reunion wasn’t enough for the world’s Stuttgart stalwarts, the same weekend will also play host to the Porsche Race Car Classic at the nearby Quail Lodge Resort on Sunday, October 16. This high-end charity event will focus on Porsche’s earlier machinery with proceeds going to support lung cancer research.
“The event will be unparalleled in both scope and quality,” said event organizer Steve Heinrichs. “Rarely-seen cars from the stables of the Porsche AG Museum, Collier Collection, Ingram Collection, Ranson Webster Collection, Dr. Julio Palmaz Collection, and Seinfeld Collection will be on hand. We expect more than ten Abarths, more than fifteen 904s, a dozen or more 550s, several 718s, probably six Elva-Porsches, special 356 racers, and much more” he added.
With two great Porsche events, in one idyllic spot, this should be an Octoberfest to remember.
