The 24th Goodwood Festival of Speed, set for June 23-26, will celebrate the 100th Birthday of Bayerischen Motoren Werke, more commonly known as BMW, by highlighting the German machinery as its featured marque for 2016.
As part of the celebration, the German brand will be the focus of the Gerry Judah-designed central sculpture outside Goodwood House that will feature a BMW 328 Mille Miglia Roadster, the Gordon Murray-designed Brabham-BMW BT52 (above) and the Le Mans-winning BMW V12 LMR. Also part of the festivities will be “M Avenue,” where examples from 40 years of the marque’s performance brand will be on display.
The overall theme of the event will be “Full throttle – the endless pursuit of power,” which will include this year’s 100th running of the Indianapolis 500, the 50th birthday of the Can-Am championship and the 40th anniversary of James Hunt winning the Formula One World Championship with McLaren.
