Concorso Italiano 2012

The Concorso Italiano 2012 was held Friday, August 17th on the grounds of the Laguna Seca Golf Ranch in Monterey, California. The Cars of Bertone were featured at the 27th annual Concorso Italiano, with Bertone displaying several concept cars to North America for the first time in honor of their 100th anniversary.

The centerpiece display at the 2012 Concorso Italiano honored the 100th anniversary of Bertone, headlined by the 2012 Bertone Nuccio concept car, 1953 Dodge Z-250, 1953 Fiat Stangeullini Berlinetta, 1970 Lamborghini Miura S and 1959 Alfa Romeo Sprint Speciale.Additional Bertone-designed highlights included a 1967 Jaguar-powered Pirana, 1953 Arnolt MG Coupe, 1968 Lamborghini Espada, 1971 Alfa Romeo Montreal and 1976 Maserati Khamsin.

The 2012 Concorso Italiano also celebrated the 55th anniversary of the Fiat 500 with a gathering of classic and modern Cinquecentos. A 1959 Fiat 500 Bianchina, 1960 Fiat 500D, 1971 Fiat 500L and a wonderful selection of modern Fiat 500 Abarths were among the entrants.

Fittingly, Fiat chose the event to debut the new 2013 Fiat 500 Turbo, which sports a 135-horsepower 1.4-liter Turbo engine, upgraded suspension and brakes plus unique design cues. “We listened to our customers,” said Tim Kuniskis, Head of FIAT Brand North America. “The new Fiat 500 Turbo is the answer to all the fans that loved the style of our Cinquecento but wanted more power and performance for their daily drive. With 135 horsepower and 150 lb.-ft. of torque, the Fiat 500 Turbo hits the sweet spot between the regular Cinquecento and the high-performance Fiat 500 Abarth.”

Best of Show at the 2012 Concorso Italiano was awarded to the 1955 Ferrari 250 GT Europa owned by Ken and Dayle Roath of Newport Beach, California.

Similar to our 2010 and 2011 event coverage, Tim Scott also documented the 2012 Concorso Italiano, offering the following 325 images that show the interesting mix of entrants — from Italy and beyond — found on the show field. To see more from Tim, visit fluidimages.co.uk.
