Paul Pennell pounds away at a recent project in his studio.
Panel Beater, Collector Discovers Artistry in Aluminium
Paul Pennell has been entrenched in the world of motors from a very early age. He would watch and help his father work at the family business, Pennell’s Motor Repairs Ltd., during his formative years. Upon leaving school, his natural progression was to work alongside his father. Paul specialized in repair work and panel beating—the latter then becoming a very specialist trade in the UK. Following the death of his father and his own health issues, Paul has taken this dying skill and transformed it into an art form, creating 3D works of art depicting everything from automobiles to animals and beyond, trading as “Artistry in Aluminium.” Although a new project for 2016 takes him back to his roots, VR’s European Editor, Mike Jiggle, visited Paul’s workshop to learn more of the man and his work.
