While Porsche showed the 914 in ads with the 917, it was never the Can Am Special Edition that was shown.

The 914 was to be unlike any Porsche or VW previously designed.

The European version of the 914 was a VW-Porsche. In the US, it there was no mention of VW.

Heinrich Klie, the man who designed the Carerra 6, designed the 914.
