Throughout the history of man and machine there have been inextricable links between automobiles and airplanes. Henry Ford’s corrugated Trimotor being one of the most obvious examples, and the temporary airport racetrack another. Funny thing about temporary circuits, however, is that they often leave lasting impressions (on both car and driver).
Over the past few years, I’ve had great fun at a temporary circuit laid out on what was (until recently) a military base. It was a flat, fast and downright fun course that was just minutes from home. Heck, it took longer to get the car out of the trailer than it took to tow there! Now closed, the base awaits the whims of city politicos, developers and the inevitable bulldozers. Another racetrack bites the dust. Damn.
